Douglas is a member of The Public Relations Consultants Association (PRCA)

He gained the Communications, Advertising and Marketing Foundation (CAM) Certificate in 1994 and the Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning sector in 2011. He is also an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is a senior lecturer in PR at the University of Lincoln, where he teaches three days a week on its undergraduate PR programe as well as MA programmes and the joint PR and Journalism course.

Douglas is still an active volunteer, serving as commanding officer for the Army Cadet Force PR Training Team (Read more about his work with the ACF PR Training Team in this article from Army Cadet Magazine P20-21).

He also volunteers as Secretary to Saltby 2000, a local community organisation and until 2016 was a Trustee of Voluntary Action Melton, a community hub providing a wide range of services directly to the people and communities in and around Melton Mowbray in North Leicestershire. He takes a close interest in the voluntary sector and is a friend of NAVCA .
